Partisan Initial Drawings

I began, as I often do, with an attraction to two colors—Sennelier’s Alizarin Crimson and Gamblin’s Pthalo Turquoise. During a residency with Nicky Ginsberg, I followed where those colors led, letting them summon images shaped by the cultural and political climate of the moment. Looking back, I realize how naïve I was then—just starting to grasp the depth of polarization in the United States, and saw the beginnings of a societal comfort within it.
