AMERICAN LANDSCAPE

With a restricted palette, the "American Landscape" series responds to the tendency to present, view, and discuss issues through the lens of "black and white" polarization. Often hyperbolic and unnuanced, it demonstrates the subtleties present in such contrasted discussions by pushing, pulling, pouring, and sometimes - tearing at the paint surface. In these paintings, I refrain from rendering a realistic landscape to emphasize the influence one's perspective and opinions have on how one views its physical environment. The series also draws from the use of the word in an allegorical sense, i.e., a "political landscape," "financial landscape," or "emotional landscape," and how these landscapes, purely products of human mental structures, influence how we view and experience the world we inhabit.
